Who does not love Instagram – the start-up that took the social network world by storm. In just 2 years its value reached $1 billion (at least that’s what Facebook think its value is when it acquired Instagram last Monday, April 9). Below are some of its milestones:
- It had 200,000 users within the first week of the launch, the count reached 4 million users.
- The iPhone app has been downloaded 30 million times.
- Released the Android version of the app and after 6 days it hit the 5 million download mark.

“John Carter” star Taylor Kitsch, in an interview in the “Late Show with David Letterman”, narrated his ordeal with an airport immigration officer. Missing his sense of direction, Mr. Kitsch mistakenly mentioned that his bad experience happened in the Philippines, when in reality he was in fact in Indonesia. Pinterest is a pinboard-styled social photo sharing website. The service allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections. Also, it’s one of the fastest growing social networking sites, even exceeding Google+ in terms of user visits and time on site.
So, with scores of other social networking sites on the Internet today, why should we be in Pinterest? The infographic below from GeeksRoom tells us all we need to know about the newest rising star in social media.
Lao Ban Soya Bean Curd
Every morning when I was still a kid I would always wait in our terrace for Mang Eddie, our suki magtataho (taho vendor) to pass by our house so I can buy my 2-peso worth of taho (soya bean curd). Once he arrives, he would immediately stop in front of our house and call me. After giving me my glass full of taho (with dagdag!), he would again ride his bike to serve other anticipating kids on our street, chanting “Tahoooo! Tahoooo!”
Our local Filipino taho is commonly sold hot and is served with arnibal (brown sugar syrup) and pearl sago (similar to pearl tapioca). My love for taho did not stop there, I continued to eat taho whenever an opportunity presents itself.
Here in Singapore, one hawker store sells a very different kind of soya bean curd. Lao Ban Soya Bean Curd is said to be the first store in Singapore to sell chilled soya bean curd, and the best tasting too as many would say.
